CAULFIELD RACE PREVIEW - 19TH JULY 2008

RACE 7-CLAMMS SEAFOOD HANDICAP 1400 METRES 04.00 P.M.

Big O’s Oracle

7 – Roadhog
2 – In the Shadows
4 – Snort

There appears to be good speed in this so looking for a swooper and have come up with the somewhat enigmatic Roadhog.  He was possibly ridden too close to the speed last time out so prepared to forgive as previous two runs were good when he was closing late over 1200 metres.  1400 metres appears the ideal distance for him at this stage of his preparation, there looks to be good speed in the race, has my personal favourite jockey M Rodd on board and provided there’s sting in the track he’ll be performing well.

In the Shadows was disappointing on face value in the Winter Championship however, he did pull hard which explained his lacklustre performance.  Back to the 1400 metres should suit however, he has a shocking barrier to contend with so interesting to see where they position him.  He’s got a bit of quality whereas a lot of his rivals don’t so expect him to be in the finish despite the negatives.

Snort found the Winter Championship class a bit hot for him last time and is much better suited back in grade here.  This is his pet distance, ran a good 2nd behind the flying Sea Battle two starts back and he will be thundering home off the likely quick tempo.

Keep an eye on Cholula fresh.  Promising middle distance horse who can produce first up.

Shaggy's Selections

9 - Dismissal

15 - Rocky Camp

5 - Archie Senior

Dismissal was good behind a very smart animal last time and is race fit after a string of good efforts recently. Has a good record over this distance and should run well from the kind barrier draw.

Rocky Camp has been performing solidly in Adelaide including beating the red hot Verco Road a couple of starts back. Gets his chance in the big league here and could surprise.

Archie Senior looks like he has been working up to a win this campaign and just found the 1600m beyond him last start. Back to a more suitable distance here over which he has an excellent record and expect an improved showing.
