CAULFIELD RACE TIPS - 9 FEBRUARY 2008

RACE 3-ARROWFIELD STUD BLUE DIAMOND PRELUDE (C&G) 1100 METRES 1.30 PM

Big O’s Oracle

5 – Wilander
1 – Exceedingly Good
9 - Siberian

Wilander showed he has obtained plenty of his half brother Magnus’ ability on debut when he crushed a maiden field by 8 lengths, running comparable time to other higher class races on the day.  He gets the good draw here again and should push through to lead, and given he’s got the race fitness on his side, I’m leaning slightly to him over the toppie.

Exceedingly Good looked like a horse with a lot of potential when showing good acceleration to win his first two starts in the spring, one of which was a defeat over Blue Diamond Prelude winner Reaan.  Going to need everything to go right here to beat Wilander and is probably not going to peak until Blue Diamond day.

Have thrown Siberian in for 3rd here based on the lack of depth behind the first two main chances and based on him being bred to be an absolute flying machine being out of noted speed sire Fasileyev and a Rory’s Jester mare.

Watch with interest.

Siderius is down from Sydney for Anthony Cummings.  Got beaten a fair margin when ran 3rd behind Seebring on debut however, may not necessarily have appreciated the track conditions that day.

Von Costa de Hero is an interesting runner.  His debut behind Sugar Babe was sound before being tipped out for a spell and his breeding his impeccable being by Encosta De Lago out of Piavonic, who you may remember as the mare who upstaged Sunline at Moonee Valley over 1200 metres one day.

Shaggy's Selections

Hard to get a line on these 2YOs, but looking towards the following:

1 – Exceedingly Good
3 – Minnesota Shark
5 – Wilander

Exceedingly Good has proven himself to have a very appropriate name in some exceedingly good wins in the Spring. Tough to beat.

Minnesota Shark was well supported first-up when pushing the smart Joyful Warrior. Drawn well and should run well.

Wilander was from the unbelievable country runs category last time when he blitzed his rivals by 8 lengths. Boom horse that should get his chance from Barrier 1.
