CAULFIELD RACE TIPS - 9 FEBRUARY 2008

RACE 8-WELLINGTON RACING CLUB STAKES 1400 METRES 4.50 PM

Big O’s Oracle

15 – Tranquility Base
3 – Kick ‘N’ Chase
7 – Largo Lad

In what looks to be a race with very little speed up front, I’m going to go with the filly Tranquility Base again.  She more than held her own last time when bloused late by Absolut Glam, and we’ll get a good guide on the form from that race when Vivacious Spirit steps out earlier in the day.  From barrier 4, she will either lead or box seat and gets every opportunity to run out 1400 metres.

Kick ‘N’ Chase didn’t have the best of favours last time when closing for 4th behind Bundle O’ Gold.  He has very good Sydney form and will appreciate the step up to 1400 metres however, will need a little luck from barrier 10, especially if he ends up worse than midfield.

Largo Lad is the big X factor in this race.  Produced some amazing displays over the summer when stamped himself as a horse with a big future.  Despite all the things going against him here (fresh, likely to get back and bad barrier), I’m loathe to leave him out, just purely because I feel he’s going to do something special this campaign – whether it’s Saturday or not, we’ll have to wait and see.

El Mandon is a very good little animal who tries hard in his races and puts himself in the right spot.  Good run 1st up and going to be able to slide forward here and should be in the finish however, still have slight reservations about him over 1400 metres.

The controversial Pillar of Hercules makes his return to racing here after showing plenty in the spring, although admittedly he’s more well known for his off field ownership interests than his on field deeds.  Has to lump a bit of weight here first up so happy to risk but he does have talent.

Shaggy's Selections

7 – Largo Lad

15 – Tranquility Base
3 - Pillar of Herculse

Largo Lad has talent.  Brilliant over the summer and a horse on the up.  Despite aot of things going against him here he may still prove too classy for this handy lot.

Tranquility Base was unlucky not to sneak away with a win last start when the smart Absolut Glam bloused her on the line. This is no harder, she'll get a similar run in transit and should go very close.

Pillar of Hercules is poorly in on the weights and is probably better suited over more distance, but just have a feeling this guy is something special and should be primed to run a big one first up.
