Note: The above diagram is our opinion on how the horses will “settle” after approximately 200m of the race.
Race Speed: SLOW
Without a natural leader in the race the 2007 VRC Derby will be run at a slow pace.
How they will settle.
The only obvious candidate to lead is Galaxy Lad who has displayed his best form leading. If that fails to eventuate Marching may have to take up the running instead of slotting into his preferred box seat. Expect to see Villain push forward and race outside Marching just behind the leader. Stockade and Best Beware will also like to be handily paced on the speed. Mufasa and Down Under Boy will both settle around midfield and should have cover in the running.
Worse than midfield will be Barachetta near the outside of Husonic and most of the favoured runners will try and settle towards the rear, be "put to sleep" and then really get going in the last 600m to 800m. Expect to see Kibbutz, Bammagera and Littorio to be at the rear of the field along with Galileo Figaro who will have to drop out to the back from the outside barrier.
Might get into Trouble:
Galileo Figaro may get posted wide without cover if he tries to settle in the midfield.
Should get the “Gun Run”:
Marching and Stockade
