FLEMINGTON RACE PREVIEW - 28TH JUNE 2008

RACE 6-2008 VRC-CRV WINTER CHAMPIONSHIP HEAT 7 1420 METRES 03.10 P.M.

Big O’s Oracle

4 – Larson
11 – Okay Oky
5 – Snort

Larson resumed with a pretty useful 3rd at Swan Hill behind Juggle the Books in a decent sprint race.  Made ground that day when very few horses did.  His second up record isn’t all that flash however, he has an impeccable record at this track and distance (3 starts for 3 seconds, including a placing behind Molotov), will appreciate the dry track and should get a nice run in transit.  Good each way value.

Okay Oky really does deserve to win one of these races this preparation however, his racing style does make it difficult when he comes from so far back in his races.  Ran on very well behind the talented Orbit Express last start and his sectionals were very impressive.  If there’s any sort of speed on in this race, he will probably crack it for a most overdue win.

Snort’s run last time out was handy behind Orbit Express when he ran on well from the tail of the field.  Good barrier should enable him to settle a touch handier.  Worth noting he best Larson in a similar race in January however, meets him worse at the weights here.  Should now be ready after two runs back and this is his preferred distance.

Sea Battle won well last time out however, has to step up in grade here and has an awkward gate to contend with.  Happy to risk him.  In the Shadows is also another horse going well but has drawn poorly, even after allowance for the likely scratchings.  He’s also probably better with some sting out of the track.

Shaggy's Selections

11 - Okay Oky

9 - Rockpecker

13 - Jacqueline Rouge

Okay Oky is a costly horse to follow, but has been racing consistently for the last 2 months without breaking through. Flew home behind the very smart Orbit Express last start and does go extra well at Flemington.

Rockpecker has taken all before him this campaign in winning each of his last 3 starts by big margins. Back to 1400-ish metres is a concern, but is improving with every run and should box seat here.

Jacqueline Rouge looked to be coming back into some sort of form last start and drops weight into this. Goes well at this distance and has stacks of class when right.
