FLEMINGTON RACE PREVIEW - 8 MARCH 2008

RACE 6-NEWMARKET HANDICAP 1200 METRES 02.50 P.M.

Big O’s Oracle

3 – Weekend Hussler
6 – Swick
2 – Magnus

Despite the fact that it seems illogical for a 3 year old to win a Group 1 sprint handicap with 1kg less than the top weight, Weekend Hussler seems to be that special horse that comes along every so often and just continues to defy logic.  Has drawn perfectly to get a trail behind likely leader Dance Hero and if he’s able to get clear running from the 400 metre mark, he should be able to win, although I predict not as convincingly as everyone assumes.

Swick will provide a more than adequate rival to Weekend Hussler in this race.  He is somewhat of a straight track specialist and ran Apache Cat, who is arguably the best Weight For Age sprinter in the country, to a very narrow margin in the Lightning Stakes a month ago.  Recorded a barnstorming win in the Salinger Stakes over this course and distance in the spring and will be the one with the last crack at them.

Magnus was extremely brave last time out when he had to work hard on the speed in the Oakleigh Plate and fought on gamely when Weekend Hussler challenged him.  Barrier 1 may not be ideal and he’s probably a better horse around the bend however, this race is light on for depth so he’s a pretty safe place bet.

Bon Hoffa is a must for your multiples.  Simply run off his legs in the Oakleigh Plate and 1200 metres down the straight track will be far more suitable.  Worth noting he beat Swick down the straight in the spring and is unbeaten at the distance.

Stanzout was very competitive first up in the Lightning and also in the Australia Stakes.  Lacks a bit of the polish of some of the others however, is very honest and sure to run well.

Shaggy's Selections

6 - Swick

3 - Weekend Hussler

5 - Bon Hoffa

Swick does his best racing fresh and that old dog Bart Cummings has freshened him specifically for this. Does go well down the straight and at Flemington and ran Apache Cat to a neck in the Lightning. Will be steaming home late.

Logic dictates that Weekend Hussler cannot win this race, but logic and horse racing go together as well as Britney Spears and underwear....so he could simply come out and flog them by 4 lengths. He is a superstar, but this is his toughest task to date. Go close.

Bon Hoffa was a long, long way off them last start, but did ran home well late with little luck. Does race well 2nd up and flogged all comers in the Bobbie Lewis over this distance (and track) in the Autumn. Should be finishing strongly.
