FLEMINGTON RACE PREVIEW - 8 MARCH 2008

RACE 9-MELBOURNE FOOD AND WINE PLATE 1400 METRES 04.50 P.M.

Big O’s Oracle

11 – Gotta Have Heart
9 – Count to Zero
4 – Sonic Quest

Gotta Have Heart ticks all the boxes in the final event here and can send you home a winner.  Got posted 3 wide last time out and the effort to run 4th was full of merit.  Just bloused late the start before by the high quality Seafarer which also reads well for this.  Should get a very comfortable lead, is well treated at the weights and he doesn’t leave anything out on the track.

Count to Zero has become a bit of a track & distance specialist of late and he also drops significantly in grade coming into this race from his recent efforts.  Will drift back in the race but will be powering home at the end of it.

Sonic Quest is probably the horse with the most ability in the race and was desperately unlucky first up in the Australia Stakes where he got chopped out for a run late in the race.  He has a couple of big hurdles to overcome here being his wide barrier plus the likely moderate tempo so prepared to risk him at the short odds.

Spinney is a horse who you should not let under your guard for your multiples.  Often resumes in much better class than this and runs well and has snuck in very nicely at the weights.  Trainer is on fire at the moment so no surprise to see him cause a boilover.  Spend a Dime is a horse on the rise and has drawn well enough here to be in the finish.

Shaggy's Selections

6 - Orange County

11 - Gotta Have Heart

2 - Headturner

Orange County is probably a tough underrated. This Flemington specialist also has a great strike rate over this distance. Barrier is abit awkward, but Mayfield-Smith will have him ready to go.

Gotta Have Heart was gutsy sticking on against subsequent G1 placegetter Publishing last time and that form reads well for this race. Should jump straight onto the speed and will prove tough to run down.

Former AJC Derby winner Headturner who skipped the Spring andcomes into this off the back of a long spell. May need this run, but generally runs exceptionally well fresh and obviously has stacks of class. Will be running on late..
