MONEY MAKERS
MELBOURNE
Mine Game
Wasn’t an overly strong race however, liked the way she knuckled down to pick up the leader who’d had a cruisy run in front. Might not be much left for her this preparation however, has a future.
Think Money
Closed late off a slow tempo in the fillies’ 2000 metre race and sectionals were good. This is going to be a very weak Oaks this year so no reason why she can’t win it.
Drumbeats & Caymans
Both of Peter Snowden’s boys decided they’d be better off smashing into each other rounding the home turn instead of chasing the eventual winner, yet still ran a good 2nd and 3rd respectively and held the rest of the field easily. Both better for the experience and looking likely types for the Carbine Club on Derby Day where they’ll bump into Heart of Dreams and each other again.
Sniper’s Bullet
Top class Sydney sprinter sho made up an enormous amount of ground in 1400 metre sprint. Was first up there so bound to be improved. Good enough to win an Emirates Stakes.
Absolutelyfabulous
Has been luckless at her past two and run on strongly both times. There’ll be a race for her at Flemington where the long straight will suit.
Our Smoking Joe
The old boy was warming up nicely late in the piece behind runaway winner Baughurst. Still has a bit to offer especially if he can get down in the weights.
All the Good, Nom De Jeu, Barbaricus & Mad Rush
The first 4 home in the cup were all cracking runs. All the Good covered extra ground and was strong to the line, Nom De Jeu flew home from well back in the field and should be better suited over 2 miles, Barbaricus circled the field mid race to find the front and boxed on magnificently and Mad Rush got baulked for runs round the turn and only got clear inside the 300 metres before charging late – arguably should have won.
Interfere
Looked a good thing on paper but win was moreso impressive due to the fact she sat 3 wide without cover on the speed and thrashed her rivals. Quality mare.
SYDNEY
Northern Meteor
Any horse that breaks its second track record at its 3rd race start has a huge future ahead of them.
Rio Osa
Defied the pattern in 1200 metre mares race to close from well back and just miss. A win is just around the corner.
Rainbow Styling
Promising middle distance horse who ran well fresh.
Fighting Fund
Made up a tonne of ground and wasn’t suited by the on pace bias. Generally goes best first up so hopefully they keep him fresh for his next assignment.
MONEY MUNCHERS
MELBOURNE
Benatar
Pat’s a pretty useful horse but she’s being raced over unsuitable distances and is long overdue for a spell.
Immortality
Summer horse, not a spring horse.
La Goulue
After buck jumping her way around Moonee Valley last start she again let the punters down with a pretty lame effort in the last when had the softest of leads and could only run a weakening 5th.
SYDNEY
Danzippo
Unfortunately hasn’t been able to recapture his old form.
Anna Bek
Promises plenty with her fast closing efforts but should have done better in much weaker grade on Saturday.
