Stakes Day 2008
MONEY MAKERS
MELBOURNE
Lord Monty
Coming off a long break and made up good ground down the slower outside rail in open sprint. Easily beat the others on that side and black type performer at his best.
Flying Ruby
Big effort to come from last and be the widest on the track to win a moderately run mares’ race.
Ballack
Had a few weeks off since last run and was coming back at the winner on the post who had snuck up on his inside. Should be winning shortly.
Ista Kareem
Good stayer who’s been running on strongly at past two starts and should be ready now. Any give in the track always help.
Arjuna
Back in form with good front running effort and only beaten by Drumbeats who is a very good horse. Should go close in the Sandown Guineas if they go that way with him.
Liberty Edition
Promising type who was only having his 3rd run in Drumbeats’ race and managed a very sound 4th. Has a future.
Tramuntana
Good sprinter who is flying at present. Unsuited under the Weight For Age conditions but still ran on hard for 5th, which followed fast closing effort at Caulfield. Just needs to get back to a handicap to win one this preparation.
Count to Zero
Good 1400 metre Flemington horse who seems to be striking form again.
Tears ‘N’ Triumph
2nd run back and caught the eye late when making ground from well back in 1400 metre final event. Picked up a race over the summer last year and will be prominent again in 1400 – 1600 metre handicaps.
SYDNEY
Tenant’s Tiara
Very good mare who conceded fitness against older horses yet still defied them in the straight. Going to be very hard to beat again this preparation.
Espurante
Usually takes a run back to strike her best, so encouraging to see her run 2nd with such a big weight on her back.
Causeyacan
Basically pulled his way into the race (a bit fresh) but exploded clear in the straight. Will improve from that and pleasing to see him win well on a firm track.
MONEY MUNCHERS
MELBOURNE
Soreadyforspring
Beware – back to chew through your pocket again this summer.
Pacino
Has his one good run for this preparation at Caulfield.. now back to his usual self.
Bel Mer
Not quite WFA quality but should have done better on Saturday given the run she had.
Mandela
A touch overrated.
Pinnacles
Very very disappointing campaign thus far.
Vandalo
Overraced with the blinkers on and is totally out of form this preparation.
SYDNEY
Leiserl
Too unreliable.
Matchless
Has become a grumpy old cow.
O’Danny Boy
No idea why he still starts at short odds.
