Predicted Track: Good (Dead @ Thursday – Weather Forecast: Fine/Sunny)
Big O’s Oracle
8 – Hume
1 – Hissing Sid
4 – Lodge the Deeds
If Hume doesn’t win this, with the right luck in running, you’d seriously question what the point of having a form guide is when you bet on racing! Great run on Saturday when he hit the line hard but couldn’t quite catch Shocking, who just happens to have won a Melbourne Cup since. Whilst he was beaten over 2 lengths, he belted the rest of the field behind him, most of which are going up against him again. Pure and simple, he should win.
Hissing Sid was awful at Moonee Valley but he’s a genuine horse who’s well worth forgiving for that run. Chased gamely behind Alcopop and Shocking two starts back at Caulfield and given the significant lack of depth in the field here, I’d be amazed if he couldn’t run a place.
Lodge the Deeds was OK at Moonee Valley and will be better for the experience at his first run in Melbourne for a while. Lacks a turn of foot however, always tries hard and was placed in the Metrop behind Speed Gifted this preparation so no issue with the class or distance of this race.
Shaggy's Selections
1 - Hissing Sid
8 - Hume
4 - Lodge the Deeds
Hissing Sid got a long way back and was hampered along way from home behind The Sportsman at Moonee Valley. Better horse than that and the effort prior to that against Alcopop, Shocking and Co was excellent and is suited at Flemington.
Hume was HUGE last week behind the subsequent Melbourne Cup winner and is flying at the moment. Expect him to get the gun run here and he will be EXTERMELY hard to hold out in his current form.
Lodge the Deeds has always looked like he had the class to snag a race of this quality and is in pretty good nick at the moment. Ran home well at the Valley and expecting similar here.
